Absorption of graduates

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the School of German Language and Literature of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1960-2020), two surveys were conducted among the graduates of the academic years 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 in order to record data concerning the professional status of the graduates of the Department.

The surveys were quantitative with individual interviews, through telephone calls using a structured questionnaire. Out of a total of 187 graduates, 171 responded, i.e. 91%.

The results of the surveys document that, despite the economic crisis the country is experiencing, the absorption rate of the graduates in the labour market is high (83%) as well as their job satisfaction (82%). The vast majority of our graduates work in the private sector, which despite being the most affected by the crisis continues to absorb our graduates, while a significant majority of them remain in Greece at a time when the country's young people are emigrating abroad en masse (80%). Finally, our graduates state that they were adequately prepared by the School's curriculum to meet the demands of the labour market both in the field of education and in many other sectors, such as tourism, Greek-German trade, translation-interpretation and subtitling, publishing, advertising, as well as in the growing digital communication and e-commerce market.

These data confirm the the correctness of the choices made by the School of German Language and Literature to provide a comprehensive and modern education that is connected to society and the labour market.
